Big Bear Chopper
Big Bear Choppers are recognized all over the world. They are the product of a family business run by a native of Australia and his wife. Their history runs from back in 1997 when the family business opened in Big Bear Lake, California hence the brand name Big Bear. There are many Big Bear Chopper models, which depend on the rider’s personality. These range from the simple styled choppers to the extreme big bear choppers. Some of the favorite models include the Bear Bones, Rage, Paradox Pro Street, GTX Bagger, Sled, Athena, Devils Advocate and the Venom series.
Among these bikes, the Bear Bones and the GTX can qualify as simple while the devils advocate and the paradox are some of the extremes. All the bikes are available in a wide range of colors and options. The standard engine for all big bear choppers is the carbureted S&S 100” EVO Engine. However, you can request for a different fitting when building a custom bike. The more advanced Big Bear models have fuel injection options. Apart from the Paradox, which is the most advanced model among the Big Bear Choppers, all the other models can be bought as an unassembled kit, which makes them less costly and open to modifications.

The 2010 GTX Big Bear Chopper is a long, low wildly styled touring chopper. It has a long wheelbase, which extends to a whopping eighty-five inches. It has a full-coverage fairing on the front with double headlights and a kicked out rake slanting at 36 degrees. It has been exceptionally designed allowing both the rider and the passenger to sit in between the wheels and very close to the ground. On the rear, it has large volume stream lined saddlebags that also act as housing for the taillights. The GTX uses an OHV V-twin engine, EFI carburetor and has a six-speed transmission. It has dual disc brakes on the front wheel and a belt final drive. The GTX has a fuel capacity of 5.1 gallons.
The Athena big bear chopper is a fanciful work of art. The first design of this model was introduced in 2008. The design was used in a competition ‘bike build-off’ in the discovery channel where it emerged the winner. The design was later developed into a chopper and a pro street design. The overall look of the Athena chopper resembles a mantis, which produces a bike with dedicated fashion looks and little consideration for ordinary world riding standards. The Athena has a 19” seat height and does not vibrate even on high speeds. The front rake is slanted at 46 degrees and extremely long handlebar stems ensure the rider maintains normal riding posture. However, those who are interested in handling may find the Athena lacking especially in traffic. The handlebars seem to loose the input resulting in slower handling. Apart fro this small problem the Athena is completely rider friendly. Its Harley styled hand controls, small legible WirePlus legible digital instrument and respectably sized mirrors ensure the rider will have the best ride of his lifetime.
